Joy Gardner
Employee Benefits Consultant
Joy found her true calling the moment she was hired by Comstock Insurance to do telemarketing. Her commercial work required her to get her Property and Casualty license. Being the go-getter that she is, she decided to get her Life and Health license at the same time. That turned out to be a smart move, as a vacancy in that department unexpectedly arose. Comstock had already seen Joy’s grasp of insurance, her energy and customer-friendly ways, and offered her the position. With the exception of a three-year hiatus in the 90s, she has been with Comstock since 1985.
Joy has always been a fast study, but it is her life experiences that bring an uncanny depth of understanding and empathy to Comstock customers. For example, one of her sons was born prematurely and stayed in the hospital for three months—all the while, Joy’s family had no health insurance (pre-Comstock!). Her other son was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 23. Thankfully, both are healthy, happy young men today, and Joy is able to speak passionately about the importance of preparing for the unexpected.
She currently serves on the Governance Committee for the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). Previously, Joy served as Member at Large on NAHU’s finance committee, chaired the Awards Committee, and has volunteered for a number of other industry organizations.
Near and dear to her heart is her family: one happily retired husband, two amazing sons and six glorious grandchildren ranging in age from five to a teenager.
